Hughes out-muscles Penn & Swick too quick for "the Crow"

In a great night of fights, Matt Hughes retained his Welterweight title by out-lasting BJ Penn in the 3rd round and scoring a TKO by placing Penn in a crucifix rendering him incapable of defending himself to a slew of rights. A great fight that saw Penn nearly choke out and manage a deep arm bar at the same time with a little over 1 minute in the 2nd round. Hughes regained his composure and came out with a storm of jabs and crosses and eventually took Penn to the matt and began his signature ground and pound. The fight was called by John McCarthy at 3:53 in the 3rd. At the end of the fight Dana White (President of the UFC) could be heard referring to Hughes as the best #$%^&*@ fighter he had ever seen, which I couldn't agree more with.

The highlight of the undercard was a 3 round battle between Mike "The Quick" Swick and David "the Crow" Loiseau. Swick won the first two round pretty easily as Loiseau didn't manage much of an offensive attack. The 3rd round saw Loiseau increase his intensity but Swick withstood the offensive charge and became the #1 contender in the Middleweight division, and will fight Rich "Ace" Franklin for the title in the coming months.

You can read more about the fights here.
